From 9th to 11th October 2024, the Université Catholique de Lille is honored to host the international Scientific Congress ECOPOSS, on the theme “ Between Preservation and Transformation, reinventing our wolrd ”. This unique event brings together researchers and partners to discuss the major digital, geopolitical, societal, and environmental challenges of our time. Supported by our research centers and national and international partners, this congress stands out for its cross-disciplinary approach and its multidisciplinary ambition. We hope that the discussions and reflections during these five symposia will inspire new perspectives for a clear-sighted and hopeful future.
ENVIRONMENTAL PERCEPTIONS AND PRACTICES

From environmental regulations to the reinvention of an ecology of ‘non-standard’ experimentation in architecture ?

In recent years in France, the tightening of thermal and environmental regulations (RT 2012 and RE 2020) has led to a proliferation of performance certification protocols in the building sector. These protocols aim to promote an exemplary model of environmental efficiency, to be incorporated into the various stages of project design. Faced with this increasing prominence of environmental standards, an architectural trend is emerging, focused on experimenting with innovative, frugal, transgressive, and often “out-of-standards” ecological practices. Based on what Michel de Certeau called “tactics of resistance”, these practices express a desire to challenge the predominant model of “green” standards in favour of other approaches to designing environmental performance solutions for buildings through “trickery”, disobedience and margins of inventiveness.
